NIU Program Formats
NIU is focused on fostering a common, rigorous learning experience for each student regardless of program or format. The following is an overview of NIU’s academic programs
Full Time One-Year
In-Residence
NIU students can earn a degree by attending classes, in-residence/full-time, over 11 months starting in August and ending in June. The in-residence/full-time program comprises both a Master of Science of Strategic Intelligence (MSSI) and a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence (MSTI), as well as a completion program for a Bachelor of Science in Intelligence (BSI). These programs have unique requirements, foremost of which is an endorsement by the student’s home agency or department.
Part Time Two-Year
Full Day Saturday and Sunday
Students attend classes one weekend a month (full day on Saturday and Sunday) for two years along with a two-week intensive summer session at ICC-B. Reservist/National Guard applicants must be nominated by their unit and must submit a signed memorandum by an O-6 in their chain of command with their application.
Part Time Two-Year
Evening Classes
Students attend class evening and typically complete the degree in two years. This format does not require a nomination from the student’s organization and is available at
ICC-B.
Part Time Two-Year
Day Classes
Based on course availability, part-time students can attend class during the day at ICC-B, but it is the student’s responsibility to ensure management approval. The supervisor approval form must be submitted with the application to attend day classes at ICC-B.
