Office of Research

The Office of Research (OOR) aims to serve as the Intelligence Community’s premier resource for intelligence ideas, innovation, and research excellence.  Its mission is to promote research distinction at NIU by leading on research standards and providing the outlets and infrastructure necessary for intelligence scholarship to flourish.

To that end, OOR incorporates the Ann Caracristi Institute for Intelligence Research, the National Intelligence Press, and the University Library.

Intelligence Jumpstart Podcast

The NIU Office of Research presents the podcast, Intelligence Jumpstart with Jane DOE. Since 1962, NIU has educated some of the IC's most notable leaders, and now shares insights via the Intelligence Jumpstart! This weekly podcast is an NI Press production that explores intelligence and national security challenges through candid and collegial analysis, opinion sharing, and masterful storytelling by thought leaders from academia, the IC, and the private sector.

A World Emerging From Pandemic

This edited volume explores how the COVID pandemic has impacted, and will continue to impact, the U.S. Intelligence Community. Authors from multiple disciplines probe the ways in which pandemic-associated conditions interact with national security problem sets. This work presents evidence-based, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods analyses so the projections can be tested against future conditions. This project is the result of a cooperative effort between National Intelligence University and the Pentagon’s Joint Staff Strategic Multilayer Assessment office.
