NIU Students Give Hope to Kids Through Hockey
December 11, 2012
Providing hope to local children during the holidays, two full-time NIU students competed as members of a joint military team to help raise awareness of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation this past Saturday. GySgt Kyle Oman and SSgt William Biesanz, United States Marine Corps, were among other members of the U.S. military to play in the 5th Annual Toys for Tots Charity Classic Game against a team comprised of New York City fire fighters. The students are part of the National Capital Region (NCR) Joint Military Hockey Team, the Eagles, and have participated in several charity games recently, including the latest game against the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Fire And Ice.
The FDNY Fire And Ice Hockey Team considered the invitation to be involved in NCR Joint Military Hockey Team's annual Toys For Tots charity event to be nothing less than an absolute honor, stating the respect and support they have for all of the brave men and women of our military who selflessly protect our freedom daily can simply not be expressed in words.
The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a not-for-profit organization authorized by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide fundraising and other necessary support for the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Now in its 65th year, Toys for Tots provides joy and a message of hope to less fortunate children through the gift of a new toy or book during the Christmas holiday season.
