NIU Students Discuss AFRICOM Issues

On 14 December, NIU students and faculty had the opportunity to meet with Philip Heyl, Chief of Air and Maritime Security Programs in the Strategy, Plans and Programs Directorate (J5) at U.S. Africa Command, as well as with the NIO, NIM and DIO for Africa. About two dozen master's students and faculty focused on Africa-related master's theses welcomed the opportunity to explore strategic-level issues with these Africa experts. Faculty member Dr. Cindy Courville, former Ambassador to the African Union, was also on hand to participate in this informal lunchtime education event.
